This is a cross-world fantasy by Rei Toma.
I was expecting a sweet shoujo manga romance, however, this series isn't actually. This story is a lot more serious than I expect.
Asahi is living a normal, sheltered life, but she has suddenly got pulled into a pond and been flung into another world. The new world looks like an ancient era in Japan. There Asahi meets Subaru, the son of the most prominent family in the village. Subaru helps Asahi and brings her home. Subaru's mother dislikes Asahi, however, and plots to sacrifice Asahi as a bride to the water dragon god in the Great Lake...
This manga is sometimes sad, serious and cruel, but it focuses on Asahi's personal growth as she is forced to overcome nearly impossible odds in order to survive. Asahi is able to get up and continue onwards and not let herself be defeated by these experiences.
I find the artwork to be beautiful and the characters to be wonderful.
I love Subaru's determination and kind spirit. I am very interested in seeing how Asahi and the water dragon god change throughout the entire story.
