Historical Background and Setting of Attack on Titan

Historical Background and Setting of Attack on Titan

(1) Paradis Island
The world surrounded by three walls, the stage of "Attack on Titan", exists on an island called "Paradis Island". Paradis Island is an isolated island surrounded by the sea on all sides, and a people called "Erdians" live. People in the world, such as Eren, are descendants of the Erdians.

(2) The Eldian
The Eldians are humans who live in the world such as Eren. The Eldians have ethnic DNA that can be gianted with special medicines. In ancient times, Eldians who gained the power of giantization used the giant as a military weapon. The Eldians, with their power, established the "Eldian Empire".
The Eldia Empire has made its way into the continent. The Eldians colonized the continent's great power Marley and long ruled the continent.

(3) History

A human named Ymir Fritz became a humanoid giant called a Titan 1,800 years ago after making a contract with the "Devil of All Earth". Though she died 13 years later, her power was divided and passed on through her three daughters before being divided into nine individuals who established the Eldian Empire. The Founding Titan remained with the Fritz family as they conquered the Marley nation and ruled over it for 1,700 years. But a century before the events of the main storyline, the Eldian king Karl Fritz was disillusioned by his family legacy and orchestrated his nation's downfall with Marley making the Eldians that remained into second class citizens while threatening to exile them to Paradis as mindless Pure Titans.

Karl took the remainder to the island of Paradis and used countless Colossal Titan bodies to construct a walled city with three enormous curtain walls: the outermost being Wall Maria; the middle wall is Wall Rose and the innermost is Wall Sheena. Karl then used the Founding Titan's power to erase the memories of most of the Eldians. Due to the Founding Titan's power, Karl influenced his direct descendants into continuing his work of ruling the Eldians within the walls through promoting fear of attack by Titans, who are Eldians that the Marleyians transformed and exiled on Paradis to terrorize the island's residents.

Due to Karl influencing his direct descendants via the Founding Titan power into continuing the deception, the Eldians on Paradis island believe that they are the only remaining humans and assumed the Titans were responsible.

(4) Pure Titans and Survey Corps

All the giants are humans (Eldians) who have been given the drug of gianting. When medicine is given, he/she becomes huge based on the framework of human age. It loses intelligence and becomes a living body that responds only to humans.

Unlike those who possess the Titan power, the Pure Titans are barely conscious as they instinctively attack and eat any human on sight. Their skin is tough and difficult to penetrate, and they regenerate quickly from injuries, except for a weak spot at the nape of their neck.

Basically, Pure Titans cannot return to human form. The base part is incorporated in the nape part of titan, and if this part is left, the damaged body surface tissue will be repaired in a blink of an eye.

Although the details are not clear, the gianting medicine is "Giant's spinal fluid" and only the Eldians are hypersensitive to the same fluid. When ingested, he/she transforms into a giant.

The Paradis Eldians developed their own military branches to combat the Titans, the foremost being Survey Corps who attempt to reclaim territory taken by the Titans and are heavily derided in society because of their apparently senseless high casualty rate and little sense of progress. The second and largest branch is the Garrison Regiment, who guard the walls and the civilian populace. The third branch is the Military Police Brigade, who guard the royal family and live relatively relaxed lives in the innermost wall, although this eventually results in fraud, corruption, and political subterfuge. The soldiers use a grappling, tethering system called Vertical Maneuvering Equipment that allow them to jump onto (and swing from) walls, trees, or nearby buildings to attack Titans with dual swords, using gas canisters to propel themselves.

(5) Inside the walls, the Paradis Eldians lived in uneasy peace for one hundred years with many people growing up without ever having seen a Titan. But this all changes when a group of Marley Eldians known as the Warriors were dispatched to Paradis to acquire the Founding Titan from Karl Fritz's descendants, the Reiss family. Though the action of the holders of the Colossal Titan and Armored Titan destroy Walls Maria and Rose to ensure they and their comrade were able to mingle among the survivors of the resulting massacre, the remaining Paradis Eldians living there were forced into the inner districts with the sudden population influx causing turmoil and famine.

The Water Dragon's Bride Special

The Water Dragon's Bride Special

I read the special chapter of the water dragon’s Bride.
This is not contained in the final volume of comics.

After reincarnation of the water dragon god, he stayed at Asahi’s home,
Asahi’s parents both can’t see the water dragon god, whereas the little brother can see him.

It was a relief that I see both Asahi and the water dragon live happily ever after.

The Water Dragon's Bride Vol.11

The Water Dragon's Bride Vol.11

In this 11th volume, the power of the water dragon god has weakened. Before the death, the water dragon god sent out Asahi with the last power.

The water dragon went to reincarnate in the world in which Asahi lives. The water dragon wants to wait until it becomes free water and meets Asahi.

The water dragon god is alone in the world of Asahi, from the time before the Kofun period to the present day, it is a long and daunting time. Having dreams of only memories with Asahi, he was awaiting for her. During that time, when he first met Asahi, he regret that he had deprived of Asahi's voice and that he was merciless.

I wonder whether the water dragon god became human at the end.

I'm glad that Asahi was able to reunite with the water dragon. But I wondered what happened to the two people later, whether it was a bit of digestive problems. Can water dragon live in the present age? The water dragon god did not become human. What will he do in the future?

Attack on Titan Chapter 119 進撃の巨人 119話

This is one of the amazing chapters of Attack on Titan. A lot of main characters died in this chapter.

Falco became one ugly looking titan.

Again Reiner survives. I really thought Reiner was gonna finally die but nope!

Poor Eren. I'm not sure if he's dead. As he killed children, he probably would deserve this.

Or Eren probably did what Reiner did earlier on in the recapturing of Wall Maria and transferred his consciousness through the rest of his body. But this is way too simple for him to pass like that.

Or Eren flying head goes in Zeke hand and somehow Eren has its conscious and he scream.

If Eren dies without transferring his power to another Eldian, his founding titan and / or attack titan would be go to a baby. Historia’s baby maybe.
